Filament that’s better for you and the planet.

PHA (polyhydroxyalkanoate) is a naturally occurring polyester produced inside microorganisms. After fermentation, the bio-polymer is harvested, purified, and pelletised into a high-purity material that is:

  • Naturally biodegradable

  • Completely free from petrochemicals

  • Naturally matte and warm in tone

  • Non-toxic and low-emission

PLA, by comparison, is plant-derived but synthetically polymerised and typically requires commercial composting conditions to degrade. PHA’s ability to break down in natural environments makes it a much more circular material.

Benefits of PHA Include:

  • More sustainable than PLA — naturally biodegradable without requiring industrial composters

  • Supplied on a recyclable cardboard spool

  • Matte, natural finish ideal for design and presentation models

  • Verified marine biodegradation

  • Low odour and low emissions

  • Excellent detail and surface texture

  • Suitable for indoor and educational environments

Print Compostable Parts

Completely Plastic-Free & Naturally Biodegradable - Unlike PLA, which needs industrial composting, pure PHA can biodegrade in garden soil and natural marine environments. It’s the most environmentally aligned 3D printing material available to everyday makers, educators, and studios.

Breaks Down Cleanly With No Harmful Residues

PHA breaks down into CO₂, water, and biomass with no microplastics or toxic additives. Because your formulation is unpigmented, it’s one of the very few filaments guaranteed to leave nothing harmful behind — safe for plants, soil, classrooms, and eco-focused design work.

Premium Natural Matte Finish

The organic, unpigmented matte finish gives prints a refined, design-forward appearance that stands apart from plastics. Paired with a zero-plastic cardboard spool, it signals sustainability from the first glance to the final printed object.

FAQ’s

+ Can I compost this in my garden?

Yes. PHA can biodegrade in garden soil. For best results, break the print into smaller pieces to increase surface area—this helps microbes access the material faster. It is safe for plants, soil health, and microorganisms.

+ Can I throw it into the ocean?

No, we do not recommend intentionally discarding anything into the ocean. However, if a print is accidentally lost or enters the environment, it will biodegrade. Laboratory testing shows around 87–88% biodegradation within 56 days under natural seawater conditions (ASTM D6691). In contrast PLA does not biodegrade in seawater.

+ Will it release harmful chemicals as it breaks down?

No. Pure PHA breaks down into carbon dioxide, water, and biomass. It does not produce toxic chemicals or microplastics. Because this filament is unpigmented and additive-free, there are no metallic residues, dyes, or stabilisers left behind during biodegradation.

+ Why is this filament unpigmented?

Pigments can introduce metals or stabilisers that interfere with natural biodegradation. We chose to keep this material completely pigment-free to ensure the cleanest, safest breakdown profile possible—ideal for soil, marine environments, education, and eco-conscious design.

+ Is it more sustainable than PLA?

Yes. PLA typically requires an industrial composter to break down. Pure PHA can biodegrade naturally in both soil and marine environments, making it one of the most environmentally aligned 3D printing materials available.

+ Can I use my PLA print profile?

No. Pure PHA benefits from its own dedicated print settings. A full PHA Printing Guide is included to make tuning simple.

+ Is it suitable for classrooms or indoor use?

Yes. PHA is bio-based, low odour, low emission, and supplied on a fully recyclable cardboard spool—making it suitable for schools, studios, and environmentally conscious workspaces.
