ECO Spool
Do your filament refills fit on a Bambu Lab refillable spool?
Yes. Both our 58mm and 60mm refills fit a Bambu Lab refillable spool.
Anchor the inner end of the coil in one of the spool's perforations before you close it. Our refills have no cardboard core, so without that anchor the whole coil free-rotates inside the spool and the filament pulls back out of the feed.
Do your ECO Spools work on a Bambu Lab AMS?
Yes. Our ECO Spools are compatible with Bambu Lab AMS systems, and with multi-material systems from other manufacturers.
That means the spool runs in the AMS. It is a separate question from whether the spool accepts Bambu Lab's own cardboard-core refills — an ECO Spool 2 was designed for our refills only, and only the 2.1 B-side, with its ring groove, takes a cardboard core.
What is the difference between ECO Spool versions?
ECO Spool 1
2016–2023The original reusable spooling system in Australia. High-impact polycarbonate, held together with 4 × 3mm hex screws.
ECO Spool 2
2024–2025A ground-up redesign, made in-house in Australia from 90% post-consumer recycled rPETG. No tools to reload — twist to open, load, twist to lock.
- Optimised for multi-material printing — smooth filament retraction on swap and purge moves.
- Easy filament swapping — cutouts let refills be restrapped and swapped.
- 90% recycled material — made in Australia from post-consumer 3D printing waste.
Two flat A-side halves, 58.5mm socket. Designed for our refills only.
ECO Spool 2.1
2025– · currentSame spool, one changed half. The B-side is 2mm taller and carries a ring groove around the hub, giving a 60.5mm socket.
It takes the older 58mm refill, the current 60mm refill, and cardboard-core refills — Bambu Lab's included. Every ECO Spool we ship today is a 2.1.
Still on an ECO Spool 2? The taller B-side is a free upgrade. Bring your spools to MATERIALISATIONLAB001, Shop 1, Ground Floor, 67–69 Regent St, Chippendale NSW, and we'll swap them on the spot — or ask us to post one out.

What are the exact dimensions of a Refill Spool V3.0?
What's the difference between refill spool versions?
It's the same filament, just spooled differently.
Every year we iterate on our ECO Spool technology to make 3D printing more reliable and more sustainable. Each version brings us closer to that.
How can I tell the difference between versions?
Check the straps that secure each refill.
Refill V1.0 — transparent, single-use plastic straps.
Refill V2.0 — reusable self-adhesive straps, and a cardboard ring.
Refill V3.0 — the same adhesive straps, no cardboard ring.

Which refill version is the best version for me?
Refill V3.0.
Earlier refills still fit an ECO Spool, with one exception: a refill wound on a cardboard ring needs the ring groove in an ECO Spool 2.1 B-side. On an earlier ECO Spool 2, which has two flat A-sides, the halves stop short and will not close.
Every ECO Spool we ship today is a 2.1, and the taller B-side is a free upgrade if you're still on an ECO Spool 2. Check which you have.
Can I choose which refill version I receive?
